What's New

Spring is right around the corner! We at North Coast Dogs are just as ready as anyone to come out of hibernation... As you get out and about, we hope to see you at one of our three locations. Here's what's going on at each:

Lakewood/West Cleveland
Our main location, next to Inn the Doghouse dog daycare on Berea Road, continues to grow, with classes offered six days/week. The retail area offers an increasing variety of items we stand firmly by, including INNOVA, California Natural, and Natural Balance foods, Gentle Leader EasyWalk harnesses, a new assortment of Lupine brand collars and leads, and much more! In addition, "The Studio at North Coast Dogs" is also growing - see below for a special portrait giveaway!

Mentor
This location, within PetSitters, is going strong, with both Heather Holt and Robi Kublin teaching. Highlights of class offerings in Mentor this month include Rally Obedience and Canine Good Citizen, along with our usual great basic puppy and dog classes.

Richmond Heights
Class offerings this month at our Richmond location, located within Kelli's K-9 Kingdom, include Friday and Saturday classes taught by our own Mireille Baumoel.

Skunk Odor Remover for Dogs

With the warmer-than-usual winter and Spring almost here, we have received a number of reports of "skunk-dog encounters". If you and your pooch are unfortunate enough to be touched, er... sprayed... by this, the following is a tried and true recipe you might want to consider (and much less messy than the old tomato juice remedy, which many say just gives you a pink tomatoey-skunk smelling dog).

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Combine the first three ingredients in a pitcher or large bowl and mix well.
  2. Stir the baking soda in a bit at a time. Be careful, as the mixture will foam like a bad chemistry experiment.
  3. Rub the mixture onto the dog, being careful not to get the mixture into the dog’s ears or eyes, but wash the face thoroughly since this is the area where they tend to get sprayed the most.
  4. Rinse with water.
  5. Repeat at least once.
  6. Buy some air freshener for the house and get ready to live with the skunk smell for a good while.

We Want YOUR Input!

As all of you out there learn and grow with your dogs, we'd love to hear from you about your experiences. Next month, we will start including items from you on different topics. This month we ask, "What's the coolest trick you've taught your dog?". Email us a description of the trick, how you taught it, and a photo of your dog doing it. We'll feature some of the best in upcoming editions of our e-newsletter.

In addition, do you know of an upcoming dog-related event you'd like us to include here? Email us and we'll get the word out!

Emails can be sent to: mail@northcoastdogs.com.
