Book
Review by Robi Kublin
"Positive Perspectives - Love
Your Dog - Train Your Dog", By Pat B. Miller
If
you are new to dog ownership or have owned a dog all your life this is a
book worth adding to your library. Pat Miller’s love of dogs and their humane
treatment comes shining through in her books. Pat Miller is an advocate
of clicker training and how easy it is to get your dog trained with this
dog friendly method of training. This attitude shines through in Positive
Perspectives . The book is set up to answer all your dog related questions.
It
is broken down into several sections that address all the questions we have
as dog owners. The first section explains all the behaviors that we find
annoying and explains why they are perfectly normal in the dog world. Then
she explains how to channel or change those behaviors so we can live happily
ever after with our canine companions.
She
goes on to cover puppies and housetraining issues. This section gives you
great insight into getting that puppy housetrained and helping with those
puppy teeth.
In
addition she has a great section called Basic Training. This section helps
you teach your dog basic manners. This section is very similar to the North
Coast Dogs Family Puppy and Family Dog classes. So this is a great reference
for anyone that wants brush up on what they learned in our classes.
Finally,
Pat Miller covers Preventing and Resolving Problem Behaviors such as Aggression,
Barking, Separation Anxiety, High Energy Dogs, Kids and Dogs. All of her
techniques incorporate her humane and dog friendly methods that help you
form a special bond with your dog. She ends the book with covering the Owner’s
Toolbox and it covers the other choices you need to make in your dog’s life
like vaccinations, collars, toys and spay/neutering decisions.
Pat
Miller provides the dog owner with a consistent “go to” manual that a dog
owner will find themselves returning to through out the life of their canine
companion. For this book and other dog related books you can visit www.dogwise.com
